Origins and Cultural Significance
Rooted in Thailand but drawing from ancient healing traditions of India and Sri Lanka, Nuad Phaen Boran finds its origins in the teachings of Dr. Jivaka Komarabhacca, the legendary physician of the Buddha.
Blending Ayurvedic principles and Sri Lankan therapeutic techniques, it forms an essential part of Thai traditional medicine. Central to the practice is the belief in Sen energy lines, reflecting a worldview where healing is as much spiritual and energetic as it is physical.
Techniques and Methodology
At the heart of Nuad Phaen Boran lies a refined use of pressure points, applied with hands, thumbs, elbows, knees, and feet.
At the age of seven, Rahul Bharti started to learn these techniques at Chiang Mai’s traditional medical hospital. Graduated at the age of nine, he later enriched his practice through studies across several cultures and countries (Bhoutan, du Cambodge, du Japon, du Sri Lanka et du Viêt Nam).
He has developed a 14-hour continuous massage flow, adaptable to the therapy’s purpose, and inspired by tai chi and martial arts for precision and harmony.
He is therefore one of the last living masters of this art.
His method targets specific Sen lines to release energy blockages and restore balance to the body’s vital force. The inclusion of yogic stretches enhances joint flexibility and mobility. Uniquely, this massage is performed with the recipient fully clothed, ensuring comfort and respect.
A Holistic Approach
More than a physical therapy, Nuad Phaen Boran is a meditative journey that bridges body, mind, and soul. Influenced by Ayurveda and Sri Lankan traditions, it encourages a state of deep connection and awareness, promoting not only physical relief but emotional balance and mental clarity through energy work.
Benefits for the Recipient
This holistic massage offers deep relaxation, stress reduction, improved flexibility, and muscular release. It boosts circulation, strengthens immunity, and relieves common physical ailments, while fostering a profound inner sense of peace and equilibrium. It is a therapeutic experience that echoes ancient wisdom and supports the quest for total well-being.
In the flowing dance of hands, breath, and energy, Nuad Phaen Boran reveals itself not just as a massage, but as a celebration of ancestral healing arts—a gateway to holistic harmony. It continues to inspire wellness seekers globally, preserving Thai cultural identity while offering a timeless path to healing.
Programme:
Objective:You will learn Level 1 of traditional Thai massage, which will enable you to perform a complete session lasting between 1.5 and 2 hours, progressing from the feet to the legs, abdomen, arms, hands, neck and head.
Level 1 practice plan :
Traditional Thai massage generally begins with the recipient lying on their back, working first on the feet, calves, knees, thighs and buttocks to stimulate blood circulation, the nervous and lymphatic systems, work gently on the joints, relax the fascia and open up the main energy lines using rhythmic pressure, stretching and mobilisation.
The practitioner then massages the abdomen, encouraging digestive and emotional relaxation through gentle pressure and synchronised breathing.
Next comes work with the arms and hands to activate two major energy lines, the heart protector (heart line) and marma points in the palms.
The massage ends with the neck, skull and face, very soothing, with delicate pressure on precise points to calm the mind, the unconscious and stress.
It ends in a moment of integrative calm, accompanied by a cup of tea shared between the therapist and the recipient.
